Insights From An Intern At Leading Social

As a first time intern I had no idea what to expect. Would I be fetching coffees all day and running errands? Or would I be given a chance to prove myself? It turned out to be the latter. From day one in Leading Social I was thrown straight into work. I was very fortunate to be surrounded by a very friendly helpful team of people.

Here are 4 things I learned during my time at Leading Social:

1. A Strategy Behind Every Post!

Working in an agency reminds me of a calm, well-run hotel, nobody sees what is going on behind the scenes but back of house is where all the work happens. People see social media pages and think, “Oh that’s a nice picture they uploaded”. This could not be further from the truth. The team spend a huge amount of time researching the end user, learning what makes them tick and formulating strategies around those insights before ever shooting photos, designing content or creating copy.

This was very intimidating coming from a marketing degree and having never even been able to draw a stickman! Concept, copy and then create is one of my favourite takeaways from Leading Social, proving you don’t just find a picture and upload it.

2. Teamwork

I think the most important thing I learned while at Leading Social is how to work as part of a team. Teamwork is not only about knowing your own role and your place in the team, but knowing everyone else’s place as well. The success of a campaign is often decided by how well the team can work together. Oh, and never be afraid to give your input!

3. “Client Management Is Easy” - Said Nobody Ever!

No two clients are the same. There is no one formula that works with every client. Managing your clients expectations is so important, especially with such a wide array of KPI's - one might be looking for online sales, another, awareness amongst a niche audience. My time at Leading Social taught me that you can never have enough client management experience!

4. Office Life!

The final thing I would like to touch on about working with Leading Social is the work environment. The term ‘work hard, play hard’ comes to mind, I have never felt so comfortable in an office before. Everyone is not only colleagues but friends. The team at Leading Social give their all to their work, but I have never had so much fun while getting the job done. We are not suited and booted everyday and I think this makes the work even more enjoyable.

I’ve learned so much over the last few months and I am excited for my next adventure!
